DEVOTE YOURSELF TO FELLOWSHIP
let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together
Hebrews 10:25
WHAT IS MEMBERSHIP?
Becoming a member of Mercy Gate Church doesn’t mean that you advance to a higher level of Christianity, and it doesn’t provide you with any VIP subscription benefits. In reality, you are a member of Jesus’ Church as soon as you respond in faith to the Gospel and receive his Spirit.
However, Scripture does call us to live out our Christianity in the context of a specific local church body. Our pastors are accountable to God for the care of our souls, and we are accountable to God for the mutual up-building of our brothers and sisters in the church.
Becoming a member of our church is a formal relational commitment made by baptized believers to mature as disciples of Jesus within our specific and unique family of Christ-followers.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF MEMBERS?
-That you submit to Jesus
-That you submit to the care of our pastors as they submit to Jesus
-That you receive the commitment of our pastors to care for you
-That you give care to and receive care from the members of our church
Practically this means that you are committed to living your life in a way that prioritizes the kingdom of God by participating in the life and mission of our church.
It also means that you are committed to sharing in the financial support of that mission through sacrificial tithes and offerings.
HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
In order to make sure you know all about our church and we know you, we ask you to walk through the simple process outlined below in order to become a member:
1. Attend the Class
In the class we discuss in depth what the Church is, how our church is structured and governed, and what is expected of members
2. Read the Handouts
You will receive a copy of our beliefs, bylaws and relational commitments
3. Complete the Application
The application informs us of your desire to become a member and gives you an opportunity to describe your faith conversion story and testimony of God’s grace
4. Schedule an Interview with the Pastors
After you’ve attended the class and submitted an application, we will schedule a time to talk through your desire to be a member and answer any questions you may have
5. Publicly Confess your Relational Commitments
Either during a members’ meeting or at the end of a Sunday gathering, we will have all prospective members come forward to publicly declare their commitment to our church body and to receive commitment from our pastors and members, followed by a time of prayer for you
Membership is for those who want to publicly devote themselves to the care and fellowship of our local church
We would love for you to join our church family as we live out the Gospel together! Take your time exploring our church and ask any questions you have along the way.
