go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to do all that I’ve commanded you

Matthew 28:19-20

Our mission is to make followers of Jesus

Matthew 28:18-20, John 7:37-39, Colossians 2:6-8, John 15:4-5, 1 Peter 1:14-21

There’s no greater thrill we have as a church than to lead others into the joy of a saving relationship with Jesus Christ! Jesus promised that he would give us life and give it abundantly. At Mercy Gate we love to see people finally lay down their strivings and cast themselves on the mercies of Christ. But that’s only the starting point.

Like any other relationship, our relationship to Jesus is a growing process. And Jesus never intended us to live out our relationship with him alone. He taught us to help one another learn how to yield to his presence and follow in his ways. Growing in our relationship with Jesus together ensures that we have support and accountability, but it also ensures that together we represent Jesus well on the block and in our city.

Our vision is gospel renewal

Ezekiel 47:9, John 7:37-39, Acts 1:8, Romans 1:16, Ephesians 3:20, 1 Peter 2:9-10

We want to be careful not to lower our expectations of what God desires to accomplish through His Church. While we understand the necessity of wisely following Christ through deep sufferings and difficult setbacks, we don’t ever want to fail to acknowledge that God is good and that he continues to do the impossible for his people.

When we consider who our God is and how he has chosen to act, it’s important that the vision for our church aligns with his heart and with his ability to accomplish the extraordinary - and even the miraculous - among his people. The whole of the Christian faith is built upon His miraculous, resurrection power. And therefore we never want to reduce God to anything less.

So at Mercy Gate our vision is “Gospel Renewal.” The Gospel is simply the good news that Jesus satisfies the thirsty soul. We want to see God bring gospel renewal to broken lives and struggling communities so that Jesus gets the glory and thirsty souls get the abundant life that he promised.
