2024 Summer Ministry Internship

“and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” — 2 Timothy 2:2

Mercy Gate Church is seeking 1 or 2 men — graduating high school seniors, current undergraduate, or graduate students in good standing — to serve as ministry interns for the summer of 2024.

We have a strong desire and Biblical mandate to recruit and develop men to become future pastors who will lead the next generation in active pursuit of Jesus’ Great Commission. If you sense a calling from the Lord to pursue a life of pastoral ministry, youth ministry, worship music ministry, or missions and evangelism, we’d love to come alongside you to encourage, strengthen and equip you on that journey.

Internship Description:

Ministry interns at Mercy Gate will work closely along the pastors and deacons to develop practical ministry skills in a local church context while at the same time developing a deeper love for the Lord and understanding of his heart. The tasks and schedule of this internship can be tailored to meet your specific academic focus or area of ministry gifting and calling. However, we would ask for your full participation in the life of our church during this internship, with the highest priority on serving during our Sunday gatherings. The time commitment would be approximately 10-20 hours per week.

All ministry interns will be expected to prioritize a faith-filled pursuit of the Lord through personal holiness and spiritual disciplines. Because Mercy Gate is a reformed/charismatic urban church you should also expect to learn about and pursue the gifts of the Holy Spirit, intercessory ministry, deliverance ministry and street evangelism.

Pastoral Ministry focus — practical opportunities to grow in preaching, teaching and leading and shepherding

Youth Ministry focus — unique opportunities for Spirit-empowered and youth-oriented discipleship and mentoring

Worship Music Ministry focus — creative opportunities to practice and grow as a vocalist, musician or lead worshipper

Missions and Evangelism focus — outward opportunities to share your faith and minister to unbelievers in the community

We also have plenty of miscellaneous opportunities to serve, including A/V media team, social media content creation, building maintenance and more.

Our Ideal Candidates Would Be:

-young men who are baptized followers of Jesus and sense a calling from God to serve in church ministry of some capacity,

-of high integrity and character with identifiable fruits of the Holy Spirit in their life,

-willing to learn about (and hopefully practice) the gifts of the Holy Spirit, deliverance ministry, intercession and street evangelism

-familiar with (or interested in learning) challenges of urban life (fatherlessness, poverty, gun violence, substance abuse, mental health disorders),

-flexible and able to adapt to unexpected circumstances, especially involving youth who have difficulty submitting to authority,

-able to reliably commute to and from our church

Compensation:

(PENDING GRANT APPROVAL) $1,000-2,000 stipend

In order to provide a stipend for this internship we will be applying for a grant from our denomination and will need to identify and affirm candidates BEFORE that application can be submitted. We hope to provide a stipend in the $1000-2000 range, pending the approval of our grant application. We will clearly communicate with candidates regarding the grant approval prior to asking for your final commitment.

DEADLINE: in order to submit this grant application on time, all internship applications must be submitted by March 1, 2024.

We are also happy to offer this as an unpaid internship throughout spring/summer/fall semesters for any students looking to earn credit hours through an internship. In this case, you are welcome to apply at any point throughout the year!
